Get Tough

Ephesians 6:10-18

Finally my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take up the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, being watchful to this end, with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints.

As human beings, created by God, we are on this earth to fulfill a mission that is part of God's plan for man. Every person who ever lived, lived at a time, and in a place determined by God, in order to fulfill His master plan. Even the job you have, and family you have, was picked by God.

Many people ignore the voice of God, and insist on doing things their way. satan runs the world, and they follow him and the world, and the pursuit of pleasure. satan makes life fun before your destruction.

Few people in comparison follow what God says. These people love God and want to please Him. satan doesn't like that, so he works at trying to turn people against God.

Did you know that when you get depressed, or feel anxious or depresed, satan is working on you. He is trying to steal your faith, and make you go against God. He tries to get you to forget or minimize your blessings, by magnifying the real or perceived bad things that are happening in your life.

Hebrews 13:5

Hebrews 13:5 let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For he himself has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.

We are like a piece of 1 trillion piece puzzle. Every piece has a place designed in the big picture, by God. If one of those pieces is missing, the whole puzzle is not complete. Just remember this my friends. It may be very difficult at times to follow God's plan, because human nature wants to take charge. One thing we all have to remember, is that God is the master planner, and if we let Him control everything, our life will come out a masterpiece.

James 4:7

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

A Case Of Common Sense

Colossians 1:16

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work

One the most divisive discussions,  that creates downright hostility, is the one about God and creation, versus evolution. The subject ranks right up there with politics in raising blood pressure.

First let us take a look at evolution. Many scientists would have you believe that the billions or trillions of cells in all living things is a random occurrence, caused by space dust or some other nonsense. And to that, sent to and how each cell depends on other cells for everything, including duplication of the original being, and it borders on the impossible.

Next we look at God in creation. In order for anything to exist, it had to be designed by someone. Take the simplest thing. Can man duplicate the form, function, and interaction of any cell or cells in a meaningful way? Think about your body and how you breathe, and what it does. It works even while you sleep, providing oxygen all through your body so everything can function properly. A random action?

Evolution: when life ends, that's it. What was the purpose of living and doing anything if it is useless. Life would be like that of an animal just surviving by instinct and not even thinking. I'm not criticizing animals I'm just trying to make it simple.

Creation: an afterlife. Returning to God for all eternity. We are created in God's image as spirits who will not die. We are here to do the work of our Creator to help others, and to reflect Jesus light.

I am not a scientist, just someone who tries to use a little common sense. When I look at creation and evolution, creation makes much more sense to me. It explains a real possibility rather than some fantasy. One thing I didn't say earlier that I say now. Evolution requires no responsibility or accountability, whereas creation does. Maybe that's the whole difference between the way people look at.

Genesis 2:7

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

Mind Battles

It Is Written, John 16:24, until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Are you one of those Christians who never asks God for anything? Do you think something is too big for God, or He is too busy to help you? Does your mind seem incapable of deciding whether to ask God or not? Let's look at a few reasons for not asking.
You don't want to bother God with your wants or needs. You don't want to seem greedy. Maybe you feel that you don't know how to ask. Does this seem like you?
Now we come to the biggest reason people don't ask God for anything. The fact of the matter is, unbelief is the problem. We don't, or can't believe God would do whatever it is, for us.
Now let's look at the real answer. satan plays with our minds. Don't forget that he planted doubt in Eve's mind about God, and she and Adam lost paradise. An untold number of us think that Adam and Eve were stupid, and we would never have done that. Really?
Jesus died on the cross, and rose again for us. By His stripes we were healed. By His death and resurrection He conquered death and satan for us.
Jesus gave us authority over satan in His name. James 4:7 says therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. If we do not trust or have faith in Jesus words, as written in the Bible, we are worse than Adam and Eve. We know about satan and his tricks, they didn't. So let us not judge too harshly, unless we judge ourselves. God bless you and your family. Praise the Lord!

Prayers Are Always Answered

Psalm 40:1-3

I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth-praise to our God, many will see it in fear, and will trust in the Lord.

Over the last several years, I spoke many times about trusting in the Lord. There are many verses in the Bible that tell you the same thing. So why is it that so few people believe that God answers prayer? God will always answer prayer through His Holy Spirit who will never let you down.

First of all, would you trust someone you didn't know? Of course not. In order to trust someone, you must know them inside and out. What are they capable of doing, do they tell the truth, are they reliable, and so on. You can check out what God is like in the Bible. The Bible is the only 100% truth in this world.

Many times people think a prayer wasn't answered, because things didn't happen the way they expected. Consider this. Let's say you pray for a good job. You get an offer that isn't what you want, so you think your prayer wasn't answered. The job you are offered may be a stepping stone to a better job then you asked God for. An airplane is not an airplane until hundreds of thousands of parts are all assembled in the proper place, and so it is with God and answering prayers.

There are many prayers answered in different ways. Years ago our finances were tight. The answer to my prayer was a refi on my house at a much lower interest rate. It amounted to a little over 300 per month. This I might add was much more than we were hoping for and certainly not the way we expected it to happen. But there you have it. Start looking at answered prayer in a new way. And ask the Holy Spirit to help you see it.

One last thing. I speak from personal experience. I have been disappointed on a couple of occasions. I didn't get what I wanted, when I wanted it, but in both instances, the answer came a few years later, when I realized without a doubt in my mind or my heart, what I was saved by not getting the answer I wanted. My way would've been an incredible disaster for me. Praise the Lord for blocking my actions and my desires. God bless you and your family. Praise the Lord!

The Story Of Man

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.

When you are blessed with time to meditate, it is amazing what the Holy Spirit tells you. For instance.

When God created the Angels, I am assuming God made them perfect in every way. Again, it seems to me that they too must have had a free will. The evidence for that is the rebellion that caused satan and his followers to be cast out of heaven.

satan was not misled by the devil, because he was and is THE devil. When God created man He also gave man a free will. From that moment on, satan and his followers worked on destroying man, God's greatest creation. They did it because of hate for God, and because their rebellion didn't work.

Adam and Eve were  perfect, living in a perfect place. They were able to see God every day, and have a close relationship with Him. When they disobeyed God, they were doing what satan did in heaven. They rebelled against God.

Mankind flourished, but their sinful ways grew even more. Things reached a point that God said, enough. He sent a flood to destroy everyone except Noah and his family. They were righteous in God's eyes, and would be the beginning of another chance for man. Again we see where man rebelled against God with all his sinning and evil ways.

When man started populating the world after the flood, sin started all over again. As more and more people came along, so did the transgressions against God. God didn't want to destroy man again, so He started sending prophets to teach man what God said. Most of them were killed and all were ignored. Does that remind you about the parable of the vineyard and the evil people that attended it.

God then sent Jesus', His only  son, to give man yet another chance. In spite of all of Jesus teaching, miracles, and example, they crucified Him. Another rebellion against God.

By Jesus death and resurrection, man got yet another chance for salvation. People since then,  continue to hate Jesus, and blaspheme against God all the time. It seems they look for ways to go against God, and break His laws intentionally.

We have reached a point in human history, where there is no limit to the evil that man conjures up against God and other men. That story is for another day.

We are speeding into the last days of man and this earth. Each person still has a chance for redemption. One last thought. Doesn't seem to be much if, any difference in what started with satan, and the steps of man. These verses should offer hope.

Psalm 37:4 and Psalm 37:7

Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Power of Believing

It Is Written, Galatians 3:22, but the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
There is a common problem with faith, that affects many people. Generally when people start to get to know God, they want to do something to show God how thankful they are. One of the top things that people decide to do, is to pray for others. There are many other goals, but the results are usually the same.
For example. Suppose that you decide to pray for others. You make up your mind on how you will go about it. You have all of the details figured out. The only problem is, you can't seem to get around to doing it.
At this point most people set a new timeframe. When it still doesn't happen, they start to beat themselves up about it. Finally they tell themselves that it must not be God's will for them to pray for others.
Big mistake. What is really happening is, satan is trying to stop you. He knows the power of prayer, so he does all of his tricks to deceive you.
Remember this. As a believer, you have power over satan. Make up your mind to cast him out, and follow God's plan by faith. Intercessory prayer is one of the most powerful prayers,  but as with any prayer, you must believe and have faith that it is, what you say. God bless you and your family.
Praise Lord!

Out Of Nowhere

Colossians 3:2

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

In case you haven't noticed, the Holy Spirit uses common things to get you looking at how the idea applies to something else.

I enjoy shooting at targets. Since I wanted to be a better shot, I investigated the way the military trained snipers. If I couldn't learn from these guys, I couldn't learn from anybody.

One of the first things I learned, also suggested a test to prove the point. When you aim, you look at the target only, and concentrate on it. Do it until everything around the target disappears. I tried it, and it works.

The next bit of advice was, the more you practice focusing on the target, the faster the system works, to the point it seems automatic.

Sometime later, the Holy Spirit brought this lesson to my heart in another way. If we focus on God and His Word, we will grow in the faith. More focus, better results. God's Word will change your life and your eternity. With all of the focus on God and His Word, the things of this world will start to fade from your consciousness.

Focus is a two edge sword. It can also work the other way, if you focus on the world, sin, and evil. You'll get depressed, angry, and become what you are focusing on. It is inevitable your focus on the world will take you away from even noticing God.

So you see, what you focus on, will become real. Just as the target gets to be all you see, good or evil, God or satan will determine who you follow. If you don't focus on Almighty God, you stand a ,good chance of missing Him entirely and messing up your eternal life. God bless you and your family. Praise the Lord!

Peace In Your Heart

Habakkuk 3:17-18

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit to be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail, and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, and will take joy in the God of my salvation.

I like to quote this verse often, because to me, I see my life through the Bible. By the way I also like Job. I can relate to these two people.

As we go through life, many things just seem to happen. Usually the bad things gang up on you, and good things seem few and far between.

The way I have come to look at it, the good and the bad are pretty much the same. They are in fact tests allowed by God for us to check our faith. Sound crazy? Let me explain.

Human nature has a tendency to take things for granted. When everything is going great, most of us congratulate ourselves for being smart, ambitious, hard-working, and more clever than the other guy. God does not enter into the picture. Most of the time, we don't even acknowledge His existence.

On the other hand, when things are going against us from everywhere, the majority of us blame God. Even if they never thought of Him, they now blame Him for everything that is wrong in their life. They take no responsibility for any of the things they did against God. There are times however when somebody gets so desperate they are ready to lose their mind, and they all of a sudden in desperation ask God for mercy. The amazing part of God's love for us is that He does help.
Job 2:9-10
I
Then his wife said to him, “do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!” But he said to her, “you speak is one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, shall we not accept adversity? In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

So you see, by doing what he does, God allows us to see where we stand in our faith.

                                                              Hebrews 13:5

Holy Spirit Baptism

It Is Written, Acts 2:38, then Peter said to them, repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
There seems to be some confusion, or lack of knowledge about the Holy Spirit as far as baptism is concerned. Many do not understand, or were not taught the difference between receiving the Holy Spirit at salvation, and baptism in the Holy Spirit.
When we are saved, we automatically received the fruits of the Holy Spirit as written in Galatians 5:22-23. These are evidences of the renewed inner  man, and a sign to others that Jesus is in our lives.
The baptism in the Holy Spirit is a separate thing. This baptism is by choice.. You must want to be baptized. The baptism may be performed by a pastor, or any spirit filled Christian for that matter, by a simple prayer, such as, I baptize you in the Holy Spirit in Jesus name.  1 Corinthians 12:7-11 explains the gifts of the Holy Spirit, when you are baptized in Him.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are what I call power gifts. The Holy Spirit was the power that enabled Jesus to do the same thing. In other words as Jesus Himself said, and John 14:12, most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my father.
Faith built and maintained by reading and meditating on the Word of God, unlocks the power of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life. Do yourself a big favor, and read 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. God bless you and your family.
Praise the Lord!

Praise The Lord Anyway

Habakkuk 3:17-18

Though the fig trees should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail, and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold, and there being no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

It should come as no surprise to most Christians, that satan is working harder than ever to undermine our trust in God. satan knows that one of the most powerful flaws in people, is to complain. It is easy to find things to complain about, because satan makes everything look worse than it really is, and then hits us between the eyes with it.

Why does satan works so hard at trying to get us to complain? Because he knows it offends God.

Numbers 11:1-3

Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord, for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the fire of the Lord burned among them, and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp. Then the people cried out to Moses, and when Moses prayed to the Lord, the fire was quenched. So he called the name of the place Taberah, because the fire of the Lord had burned among them.

If we stumble once in a while, God will forgive us if we ask. When that happens, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and give you strength. Make a conscious effort to look for the blessings in your life. Don't look just for material things that you can buy, look at things such as trees and flowers, birds, your health. Don't miss a chance to look at everything as a blessing.

The average person has a tendency to minimize or overlook the good and maximize the bad. satan is the key factor, but remember, God gave each of us the gift of choice. We decide who and what we follow. Remember when you live according to God's will, and give your day to Him, everything that happens that day is part of His plan, so no matter what happens during that day, it is part of God's plan for you. Thank Him for it with all your heart, regardless of what satan is trying to tell you.

Praising the Lord anyway, opens your heart and mind to doing it God's way, and being who you were created to be.

1Thessalonians 5:18-19

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit.

Trial And Tribulations

1 Peter 5:10
And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthening, and establish you.

In the book of common sense, Thomas Paine wrote, “these are the times that try men's souls; the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot, will in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country.”

In these times, a true Christian is fighting on two fronts. He is involved with a spiritual war, and a secular war at the same time.

In the spiritual war, it is good versus evil. This one, tests our faith and beliefs in Almighty God. The Bible was written to guide us in the perfect will of God. We are living in a time that is testing these beliefs and our faith in general.

The Constitution was written as a guide to running a government according to Christian beliefs and ideals, with the Bible as a guide.

These really are times that try men's souls. We have not experienced so much hate and chaos since the Civil War. The difference now is, so many people have turned against God and country. They want to erase the Bible and the Constitution, and pretend that they never existed.

There is one answer for both problems. The answer is Almighty God.

2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

The subject obviously could fill a couple of volumes but due to limited space I just scratched the surface to identify that there is a problem. Keep one thing in mind if you are a Christian. This will give you hope. God is light, and evil is darkness. The undisputed fact is darkness cannot overcome the light. God bless you and your family. Praise the Lord!

The Holy Spirit In Action

It Is Written,1 Corinthians 2:13, these things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
I'd like to tell you about an incident that happened to me recently. I tell this story to help someone to realize that none of our needs is too small for the Holy Spirit to handle.
This past January, I had bypass surgery. The cardiologist told me that I cannot shovel snow, until further notice.
Well, I came home, and almost 2 months went by without any snow. Very unusual for where I live. While talking to my son, I thought I would be a wise guy, so I told him that since I couldn't shovel snow, the Holy Spirit didn't let it snow. I was believing what I said, no matter how silly it may have sounded to someone else.
A few weeks later, we got about 4 inches of snow at night. The next morning when I saw all of that snow, the thought went through my mind, what am I going to do? At that point, I said to the Lord, I would appreciate if He could send someone to shovel. I thanked Him, and didn't give it another thought, and went about what I was doing.
About an hour later, I looked out of my front window, and I saw five neighbors shoveling my driveway and sidewalk. They even got the snow off the car. The funny part about this whole story, is that it was exactly as I said. I guess you could say the way it came about, with me asking the Lord, and forgetting about it, showed me once again, and him how faith works. Is the Holy Spirit great or what? God bless you and your family. Praise Lord!

Why Not Me?

It Is Written, 1 John 4:17, love has been perfected among us in this; that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.
You have probably heard many people say, why me? You might have even said that yourself. You may think I'm a little nutty, when I say, why not me?
Let me explain. We all know that Jesus died on the cross, and rose again, in order to forgive our sins, and make us right with God.
When you realize the full impact of what Jesus did, you realize that you are now a child of God. God does not have favorite sons or daughters, He loves them all the same. What He does for one, He will do for all. You must put the words, why not me , in your heart and mind.
During Jesus time on earth, He said He only did what His father did or said. He said this on a number of occasions. Since Jesus was God's Son, because of Jesus, we have the same Father.
When we go to our Father in prayer, we tell Him what we need, or want, and we thank Him for giving us His best in regard to our petition, and live knowing that our prayer is answered. You may want to say to yourself, why not me, before you pray, with faith and trust in your Father to do His best for you, just like He does for all who know and love Him. God Bless You and Your Family. Praise The Lord!

Faith And Works

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Trying to live a good Christian life can be confusing and frustrating at times. I have been through many times, of so much frustration trying to figure out God's plan for me, that I couldn't count the times.

We know we are saved by grace, and not by anything we did to earn it. We see big-time preachers, and a lot of us think that is the answer. We see someone like a mother Theresa, and think that is the answer. All of that would be wrong.

The truth is, God called each of us for a special purpose. We fit into his plans for other people's lives. It could be our prayers for others, small kindnesses we show others, or giving of our time or money.

God made it real simple for us. He gave us an instruction book called the Bible. We don't have to be frustrated, confused, or feeling useless. Just follow his word, enjoy his presence in your heart, and follow as you are led by the Holy Spirit.

James 2:17-20

Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, you have faith, and I have works. Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my work. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe-and tremble! But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?

As we can see, faith and works go together. Just remember that salvation is by grace, and that grace inspires us to do the things of God. To give you a good idea of the kind of thing I'm talking about, Galatians 5:22-23 will give you a perfect idea of the kind of works we are talking about. There are others of course but this is a starting point.

Galatians 5:22-23

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. As I said this is a good starting point to give you an idea of the type of works that we are all called to do. If we do them we are following God's plan for our life until he directs us to do something else. God bless you and your family. Praise the Lord!
