When the Lord Jesus Christ preached about forgiving, He wasn’t just talking, He proved it on the cross. He did something no one else could do. Steven the first teacher to be martyred repeated the Lord Jesus words as he was being stoned to death.
And if the Lord Jesus could give us such an example, it should dawn on us that it must be important for our well-being. New Testament writers all tell us about forgiving. Let us look at a few.
Romans 3:23, For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Luke 17:3-4, Pay attention to yourselves. If your brother sins rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day and turns to you seven times saying I repent, you must forgive him.
It is an inescapable fact that all of us are sinners. We sin against God and other people. Many of our sins require forgiveness from someone else. If we hurt someone in some way, we need to reconcile ourselves with them. Go to them with a repentant heart.
If we don’t ask for forgiveness, we will probably never forget what we did, and will never have peace.
1 John 1:9, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Then of course there are the occasions when we are hurt in some way.
Ephesians 4:32, Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another as God in Christ forgave you.
Matthew 6:15, But if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
The first thing we must do is forgive the one who has hurt us because the Lord Our God expects it from us. Don’t wait around for an apology. If the person does ask for forgiveness do it. and if he doesn’t do it anyway.
Colossians 3:13, Bearing with one another. And if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
God bless you and your family.
Remember Jesus loves you.
Prayer of Salvation.
Lord Jesus Christ I am a sinner. I know you suffered and died on the cross and rose again to wash away my sins and to save me. I acknowledge my sins and Repent of those sins and ask you to come into my heart as my personal savior. I believe and I receive the gift of salvation. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
