God's Promises Sunday

A Proud Heart

Proverbs 26:10, do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Our topic today concerns one of the things that a lot of us are not even aware of. It is one of those things that are so common that we don’t realize the full impact of what it is. It’s easy to see when someone is prideful, boastful, or arrogant. But what is a proud heart?

If you do some searching, you will find that unbelief is actually a form of pride. Did you ever think that when your unbelief comes into the picture, you’re telling God that your opinion is better. That’s a pretty shocking statement I know, but I believe it is true. Unbelief is doubting what God says; therefore it has to be our prideful attitude that keeps us from believing.

A lot of us fail to realize just how prideful we can be. Whenever we look at someone else, and make a comment to ourselves, I wouldn’t do that, we are being prideful. We are judging someone else, by our standards of behavior. We are saying that we know better than most people.

Proverbs 16:5, Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; though they joined forces, none will go unpunished.

Proverbs 16:18, Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

If we see someone struggling with a problem, it is easy for us to look at them and criticize. We think we have all the answers, and those answers are correct. Without realizing it, we are saying the other person is just weak, or is not very smart. It sounds terrible, and it is, but that does not take away from the fact that it is prideful.

We need to realize that God made everyone the way they are, and He is guiding their steps. When we criticize the other person, we are in effect saying that God is wrong, and we are right. It is no wonder that the Lord looks harshly at pride.

What I have come to find out is something I have not realized that I was doing. I really must pay attention to the things I say and think. We are made righteous by God, and that is because of what Jesus Christ did. Any righteousness we feel on our own is just Pride.

The big thing to remember is what I have realized. Whenever you criticize or judge someone else, you are basically saying that God made a mistake, and your opinion is correct. Think about that, I did, and I do. Just keep reminding yourself until it becomes a part of the way you are at all times. God bless you and your family. Praise The Lord!

Remember Jesus loves you.

Prayer of Salvation.

My Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you and Praise you for what you did on the cross for me. By your stripes I was healed and your blood washed away all my sins. Your death and Resurrection made my salvation possible. I confess my sins, and I ask you to come into my heart as my personal savior. Amen!

Praise The Lord!
