Luke 2:1-7, And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So, all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph went up From Galilee out of the city of Nazareth, entered Judea to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary his betrothed wife who was with child. So it was that while they were there the days were completed for her to be delivered, and she brought forth her firstborn son and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a Manger because there was no room for them at the inn.
Most of us have heard the story of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. Did you know that there are some interesting facts that show the Lord God almighty’s Hand in it?
Yeshua is Jesus Hebrew name, and it means deliverer or savior.
The word Magi is Latin for sorcerers.
The Greek spelling of the word Bethlehem means House of Bread. The bread of God is that which descends from Heaven and gives life to the world. An appropriate birthplace for Jesus who is the bread of life.
The whole point of all this is simple. How can you be grateful and joyful about Jesus birth if you don’t know Him? And why did He come and do what He did? What are we missing out on?
The facts that I showed you in this message point to a very important fact of life. I could tell you He died for our sins. I could tell you about things He did. But the truth is just making a statement is not powerful if you don’t know the context. We have the Bible to explain who God is, what He did what He is doing, and why He is quick to forgive, and why He loves us so much.
The fact of The Lord Jesus Christ’s’ birth is just the beginning. The rest of the story of our salvation is told with the crucifixion. These two are connected, because without both, there would be no salvation for anyone. The joy of the Lord Jesus Christ birth comes from the fact that he is our savior, and He came to save us because we could not save ourselves.
Some other facts that you might find interesting and encouraging are also listed in the Bible. For instance, He is always with us. When He rose from the dead and went back to His Father, He sent the Holy Spirit to help us in our journey back to Him.
When we read the instruction book for anything and follow those instructions we have success. If you don’t know all the bells and whistles of your car for instance you may be driving it for a couple of years and not even know you could have been doing something that would add pleasure to your driving. It is the same with life on our trip through it. The Bible is our instruction book. If we put our hearts into studying it, and following it, we will accomplish what God intended for us to accomplish from the beginning.
So, this Christmas season we should be joyful no matter what is going on in the world. The Bible tells us so. If we are saved, we are in the world but not of it. You might like to read Psalm 91 for a little extra encouragement.
It all started with the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The greatest gift any of us could receive, and it comes right from God Almighty Himself. So have a joyous Christmas and don’t forget to follow the instructions. God bless you and your family.
Praise The Lord!
