In this verse Peter talks about the promises. The New Testament alone tells us of the promises of God in a big way. As we all know, a guarantee, promise, warranty and such are only as good as who or what is behind it.
The New Testament writers were mostly people who knew the Lord Jesus Christ personally. They lived with Him and interacted with Him on a daily basis. They witnessed personally what they wrote about.
Most or nearly all of them lost their lives because of teaching about Jesus. They knew they would die if they taught about Jesus, but they did it without hesitation.
Ask yourself this question. Would anyone die for something they thought was a lie? So many martyrs among the believers did not die for a lie, but for the truth.
We have the benefit of hindsight. We have God’s word. The closer you are to someone; you know they can be trusted. Really spend some time in God’s Word and you will trust Him too.
God made many promises to us about salvation, forgiveness, gratitude, and many other things. Most of us know already that God does not go back on His word. God cannot lie, so when He makes a promise to us, we can be sure that sooner or later He will deliver.
It is a simple fact that when we get to know Jesus better as time goes on and we put a little effort into it we will be totally convinced that He is what is claimed to be. The son of God who came to this earth on a rescue mission, that is to save us.
Romans 8:28, And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.
The key to receiving all the promises of God, is to trust that He will do what He says. Usually that is not an easy thing to do given the situation that we live in the world. Jesus once said unless you believe as a little child you will not enter the kingdom of Heaven.
I tell you this because I found out a long time ago in my own experiences that the biggest reason people do not trust in the Lord or have faith in His word, the Bible is that they compare everything to people and what they understand in this temporary world. Put all of that aside, tell the Lord you want to understand, and just believe what the word says no matter what. What have you got to lose except your Immortal soul. I think you will agree that the stakes are very high. God bless you and your family. Praise The Lord!
Remember Jesus loves you.
Prayer of Salvation.
Lord Jesus Christ, I am a sinner. I know you suffered and died on the cross, to wash away my sins, and rose again in order to save me. I acknowledge my sins and ask you to forgive those sins, and come into my heart as my personal savior. I believe and I receive the gift of salvation, and eternal life. Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ. Praise The Lord!
