Greetings My Friends;
A good number of people are reasonably generous, and may even give 10% of their income to charity. They see a commercial on TV with starving children, and it touches their hearts to send something. All of that is very good.
My wife and I have charities that we send to regularly, so I set up bill pay with the bank. If you aren't familiar with Bill pay, here is a brief description. You tell the bank how much to send, to whom, how often, and the time of the month to send it. It works very well. You don't have to remember anything each month. You can get a record of the transactions online, because they have a complete record for all transactions.
I was sitting around one day and I happened to think about the charities. We give out of compassion for the people we are trying to help. But, and there usually is a but, I felt kind of disconnected from what we are doing. Don't get me wrong, we don't just give so we could feel good, we feel good because we are helping someone. If you're crazy about pizza, how satisfying is it to see someone else eat pizza?
We will continue with the bank and bill pay, but we are doing something else. We started to figure out what we could do. Here are some of the things we came up with. Yes we get pleasure out of helping, but we feel being a Christian is more than just saying Jesus loves you. As they say talk is cheap.
It is easy to Fellowship with people at church. You are there anyway, and it doesn't take much thought or effort. When you are away from church that is a whole different story.
If you have a hobby that includes making things, you know how those things accumulate. Consider donating your work. I know someone who crochets caps and scarves, and she happily gives them away. She enjoys seeing the smile on someone's face when she gives them a cap.
It doesn't have to be only that. Pick up the phone every couple of days and check on an elderly neighbor. Make a little extra supper, and give a meal to someone that could use it, such as an ailing neighbor.
Volunteer a few hours a week somewhere. There are countless little things you can do. When you go to the store, ask someone who has trouble getting out if you can pick something up for them. Lend an ear and encouragement to someone who is hurting. Pray for people. If you see someone at the mall who looks sick, troubled, or they just kind of pop out at you, say a quick blessing over them. They don't even have to know. Just do it in silence as they pass by.
I hope you think about doing something for someone you may not even know. Just pray about it and think of ways to show good honest Christian love. Jesus did.
God Bless You And Remember
Jesus Loves You
Prayer of Salvation;
"Oh God in Heaven, I believe with all of my heart that Jesus has been raised from the dead. I receive your Word, and I repent of sin. I renounce the past. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. I receive my forgiveness. I receive the new birth, cleansed and washed in the Word and in the precious blood of Jesus. Fill me with Your Spirit, in Jesus name. Amen"
